Of the more than 180 resorts at which Royal Holiday members can stay, 15 are located in Spain, and four are sited on Spain’s Costa del Sol. Royal Holiday members looking for a Costa del Sol vacation can choose between booking nights at the Sierra Marina, San Diego Suites at California Beach Resort, Marina del Sol, and Marina Dorada, with weeklong studio accommodations at the resorts ranging in price from 7,500 holiday credits to 12,000 holiday credits.
Whichever resort they end up choosing, Royal Holiday members can take advantage of the region’s famed seaside charm, which has long been a favorite of European travelers. The Costa del Sol occupies the southernmost coast of Spain and combines ocean views with views of nearby mountains. The area has been highly urbanized and gets over 300 days of sunshine every year.
While the beaches and weather alone make the area a desirable destination, the Costa del Sol also offers access to a number of activities. Several major golf tournaments come through the area every year, and other events range from concerts and plays to a fantasy film festival that takes place in the fall. Despite its reputation as a resort area, the coast also has a long history and contains several important landmarks and museums. The beacon tower in Malaga, for instance, has been around since the 14th century and was used to keep watch for pirates. And the Museo Automovilistico de Malaga features 6,000 square meters of space dedicated to a hundred vehicles, including custom and vintage cars from the likes of Jaguar, Rolls Royce, and Bugatti.
The Costa del Sol’s main cities are Malaga and Marbella, and each has its charms. But the region also contains a number of towns and villages with their own character. Many occupy the foothills and ridges of the mountains just to the north of the beaches. Others maintain a quiet, more secluded atmosphere despite being on the busier coast. Some of these towns and villages have become draws for specialized activities like kite surfing and windsurfing. From a base at one of the four Royal Holiday resorts on the Costa del Sol, travelers have the opportunity to experience them all.
