    EXPLORING MAYAN CITIES

by Royal Holiday Club 12 November, 2024
    written by Royal Holiday Club

When we think about the Mayans, we imagine giant pyramids, ancient mysteries, and an incredibly advanced civilization. The truth is that the Mayans built many cities, but have you ever wondered how many exactly? Get ready to dive into the most important Mayan cities and learn how many Mayan cities there are.

    THE IMPRESSIVE MAYAN EMPIRE

    MAYAN CITIES

Mayans were not only experts in mathematics and astronomy but also incredible architects. Their cities were not only simple villages, but enormous urban centers with temples, palaces, plazas, and ball game courts. Archeologists have identified more than 40 important Mayan cities spread in the south of Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, Honduras, and El Salvador.

Some of the most famous cities are:

    • Tikal (Guatemala): one of the biggest and most powerful cities. Its pyramids seem like they touch the sky and its history is filled with war and alliances.
    • Chichén Itzá (Mexico): probably the most known Mayan city, declared one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World.
    • Copán (Honduras): famous for its sculptures and hieroglyphics that tell the history of its leaders.
    • Palenque (Mexico): an impressive site with detailed architecture and a mysterious history.
    • Uxmal (Mexico): with its unique architecture and a focus on decorative art.

But these are only some of the many cities there are; each one of them with its magic and secrets.

THE MYSTERY OF THE LOST CITIES

    MAYAN CITIES

Explore the beauty of the Riviera Maya here!

Although we know the most famous cities, many other Mayan cities remain hidden in the jungle, waiting to be discovered. Thanks to modern technology such as LiDAR (a laser radar that scans the territory), many cities in the jungle have been identified. Some of them have not even been completely explored! This shows us that the Mayan world is FASCINATING.

CANCÚN AND THE CLOSE MAYAN CITIES

    beach cancun

Cancun is known for its beaches and nightlife, but it’s also filled with Mayan history. Only a few minutes away, you can visit incredible archeological sites:

    • Tulum: the famous Mayan city by the sea. Nothing better than looking at a Mayan ruin with the Caribbean in the background.
    • Cobá: less known than Chichén Itzá, but equally as impressive. Here you can go up to the highest mountain of the region and enjoy a spectacular view of the jungle.

And after exploring these sites, there’s nothing better than relaxing in a place where history is combined with modern luxury.

GRAND PARK ROYAL CANCÚN: A RELAXATION AND CULTURE SPACE

    Grand Park Royal Cancún

Whenever you’re ready to take a dip in the crystal clear waters of Cancún, Grand Park Royal Cancún is the perfect place. This resort combines luxury with Mayan culture, offering an experience that goes beyond the beach. Imagine being in an infinity pool with a margarita in hand, remembering the history of ancient Mayans you just discovered.
