RIO DE JANEIRO: 7 UNMISSABLE SPOTS

by Royal Holiday Club 12 October, 2026
    written by Royal Holiday Club

Río de Janeiro has that fascinating mix of beaches, nature, good vibes, and an energy you can feel the second you arrive. It is the perfect city for walking, observing, trying new flavors, and enjoying without rushing.

If you’ve never been here before, you’re probably wondering what to do in Rio de Janeiro to make the most of your visit. Here is where you have to go.

    1. CHRIST THE REDEEMER
      CHRIST THE REDEEMER

The classic. Christ the Redeemer, atop Mount Corcovado, offers one of Brazil’s most famous views.

In addition to seeing one of the most recognized monuments in the world, you will have a spectacular view of Rio, with the Pan de Azúcar, beaches, and the bay.

    1. PAN DE AZÚCAR
      PAN DE AZÚCAR

Another one of the places you have to visit. The cable car ride is part of the experience, and it lets you enjoy different perspectives of the city as you ascend.

It is ideal to go at sunset: the views are incredible.

    1. COPACABANA
      COPACABANA

If you want to understand Rio de Janeiro’s essence, you have to walk Atlântica Avenue and explore Copacabana Beach. And if you’re up for it, play a friendly game with the locals.

You can sit down to drink, walk down the famous white-and-black mosaic street, or watch the movement of the beach.

    1. IPANEMA AND ITS SUNSET
      IPANEMA

Ipanema has a more relaxed, sophisticated atmosphere. The beach, bars, stores, and street stands make it ideal for longer visits.

    1. SANTA TERESA AND LAPA

To discover another side of Rio, you should get away from the beaches. Santa Teresa invites you to walk its steep streets, explore its ancient houses, and enjoy its artistic environment.

Lapa is nearby and it is famous for its nightlife. If you’re thinking of things to do in Rio de Janeiro beyond the typical places, this zone deserves a spot in your itinerary. The Selarón Steps will make a great social media post.

    1. THE BOTANICAL GARDEN AND THE RODRIGO DE FREITAS LAGOON

Rio can also surprise you with its green areas. The Botanical Garden is perfect if you want to walk among palm trees, tropical trees, and species from all around the world.

Later, you can go to the Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon, ideal for a stroll and to get a break from the city’s rhythm. Enjoy Royal Holiday with your family.

    1. GASTRONOMY AND MUSIC

From a caipirinha by the sea to a feijoada, a good churrasco or a classic pão de queijo, these are part of the experience, as well as samba, bossa nova, and other rhythms that you’ll hear in different corners of the city.

    WHERE TO STAY

The best option is Río Othon Palace, especially for its Copacabana location, which puts the beach right there and makes it easy to get to other tourist spots. Figuring out what to do in Rio de Janeiro won’t be a problem.

From its pool on the top floor, you can enjoy a panoramic view of Rio. After a day of exploring the city, taking a dip while watching Copacabana from the heights is a real luxury.
