WHAT ARE THE CALCHAQUIES VALLEYS?

Salta is the starting point for your trip to the Calchaquies Valleys. Also known as “La Linda” or “The Pretty One” due to its architectural beauty and welcoming vibe, Salta is a destination full of history and delicious food that you can’t miss.
Visiting the Museum of High Altitude Archaeology (MAAM), going on the cable car, and eating in the restaurant area near San Lorenzo are all things that will make you fall in love with this town.
CAFAYATE, THE ROUTE OF WINE
If you travel south from Salta, only 125 miles away, you’ll find Cafayate, a beautiful small town known for its vineyards and wine cellars. Due to the weather conditions and the bright sun, this place produces exceptional wines. Among these stellar wines, you’ll find Torrontés as well as a great variety of white grapes.
Go on a private tour and visit the wine cellars where you’ll get to try different local wines and learn about the production process. You can also visit the Museum of Vic y el Vino (the Vine and Wine Museum), an interactive museum that tells the story of wine in this region.
Only a few miles away from Cafayate, visit the unique multicolor rock formations of La Quebrada de las Conchas and enjoy the view of the iconic formations of La Garganta del Diablo (the Devil’s Throat) and the Anfiteatro (The Amphitheater).
CACHI, A CHARMING TOWN
Another place you cannot miss in the Calchaquies Valleys is Cachi. This charming little town combines colonial architecture with the beautiful view of the mountains. Walk through its cobbled streets and admire the white houses and the beautiful Church of San José. The best part is that it is only 97 miles away from Salta, making it a perfect place to spend a day.
Explore the National Park Los Cardones. Situated between Cachi and Salta, this park is home to giant cacti and offers an amazing hiking trail where you’ll be able to enjoy the beautiful nature of this ecosystem.
