Colombia has been known for its violent times and war on drugs news that invaded almost every newspaper and magazine around the world. Those times are far over. Colombia is now well-known for its beaches, touristic plans and all the foreigners that fly to the country every year.
Plants, wildlife, beaches, natural parks, colonial cities and innovative big metropolis are just a few of the things you can visit in Colombia. There is a documentary called “Colombia, Wild Magic” ( Colombia Magia Salvaje, for its name in Spanish) and there is also a slogan that says “ Colombia. The only risk is wanting to stay”.
We give you 4 reasons to visit Colombia before your travelling days are over and you have to enjoy the beauty of this country from the comfort of your couch.
- Providence Island (Isla Providencia):
the most beautiful beaches are located here, in Providence island. It is covered by the well-known Ocean of the Seven Colors. A good feature of this island is that it is practically not visited by so many people so you can enjoy the silence of the view and the kindness of local people. One of the most attractive places to go there is Cayo Cangrejo (Crab Cay, for its translation in English) that it is practically a mountain of green vegetation in the middle of the ocean where you will find huge palm trees , turtles, crabs, iguanas and a lot of exotic wildlife. The sea around Cayo Cangrejo is crystal clear and it is perfect to swim as it feels and looks like a pool. - Nuquí:
it is on the pacific ocean and it is a combination of beaches, jungle and hard waves coming from the strong pacific ocean. Between the months of July and November people can appreciate the most beautiful spectacle in the world: Humpback Whales come from the South Pole to mate and have their offsprings in the warm waters near the pacific coasts of Colombia. The ocean is harsh, but later it will go calm and change its color. You can also go deep in the jungle into “ El Tapon del Darien”. The Darien Gap jungle that separates Panama from Colombia and it’s one of the few virgin jungles in the world, it is just too difficult to explore. Go into the natural reserve and you will be amazed by the size of the trees and wildlife diversity. Maybe wifi and phone signals are not available, but it is a destination that invites you to connect with nature and enjoy life at its purest essence. - Caño Cristales:
also known as the most beautiful river in the world. Maybe it is a little exaggerated, but it is a river that has 5 different colors, so you be the judge of that. It is also known as the place where the rainbow melted. It is the place where the Macarenia Clavigeria grows and it is located in the National Natural Park Sierra de la Macarena. The violent past of this Colombian region is far forgotten and you can now walk through the street of La Macarena town and enjoy the night with stars that feel so near that it is almost a 3d spectacle. Many recommendations are given when going into the Caño Cristales zone like cero sun block recipients and that you must take back your garbage in order to not contaminate the waters. It is part of the Magic Realism that Colombia has to offer. It a place to never forget. - The Tatacoa Desert:
as it names states it, it is a desert. It is the second desert, or arid zone in Colombia, after another very good destination in Colombia, the Guajira zone. It is a perfect place for people that enjoy watching the stars and the moon. It has a combination of colors throughout the day as orange, green and yellow, a combination of ground, vegetation and the sky.
